Nine Time Weekly Recap

SMUS Startup - September 8th - 20th

The startup of any school year is a time of transitioning into new surroundings, routines and relationships, (Roommates, Classmates, Teachers, Houseparents, etc.). Community building is a large focus at this time of year, and over the course of the past two weeks the boarders have participated in the following:
  • House Dinners & Picnics - meeting their neighbors and understanding the rules of the house.
  • Building Activities to allow the boarders to connect with their neighbors, who live on the opposite side of their building.
  • House Games, Community Dinner and Chapel.
  • School Sports have kicked off, Rugby, Field Hockey, Volleyball, Cross Country, Squash and Soccer.
  • Intramurals begin this week - all are expected to participate unless on a school team.
  • Weekend Activities - Saltspring Island day Trip- 8s and 9s spent the afternoon exploring the market.
  • Terry Fox Run- great community event that all boarders participate in to support and carry on a Canadian Hero's dream to fight cancer.
As the term progresses all the boarders will settle into their routines and discover what works for them. The 9s have all had Nine Time during prep this week. The focus of this month is "Relationships", and I am very impressed with the effort of the group so far. The monthly themes will align with the Wellness theme that Ms. Peace, (Wellness Team), coordinates according to the school/boarding life cycle.

Weekend Highlights:

Saltspring Island was attended by all 8s and 9s except for the two on weekend leave, (Antonio and Susan).
Everyone was in great spirits and brought lots of energy. The rain held off and the bus was bumping with tunes there and back, the top requested song was none other than "Nei Nei". Shalese and Paola were giving dance lessons up on the top deck during our ferry ride back... Aoi and Blake have acquired some new moves. Another highlight was Harry's, (grade 8 in Bolton) new hair style...this kid may be the new trend setter for all future fashionistas! Special thanks to Ms. Martin, Mrs. Rees and Mr. Doland for being incredible chaperones!

Terry Fox Run
Sunday morning at SMUS began with a 9:45am departure to Beacon Hill, where we all took place in a 5km walk/run to help carry on/support the Canadian Hero Terry Fox's dream to run across Canada to fight Cancer. It was neat to see everyone out running in the rain.

The focus of 9 Time will continue with the Wellness theme of relationships this week, with a focus on goal setting!
